Skywatch Friday - 24 & 25/365

1-23-10 Skyline on the Plaza, originally uploaded by 365ormore.
The teen and I went down to the Plaza last weekend for a day of photo taking. The buildings there are beautiful, some set in the style of spanish homes, terracotta roofs, etc... If you look closely at the closeup photo,  you can see small strings of lights. Every Thanksgiving, they light the entire Plaza up with Christmas lights and keep them on til mid January. I have Christmas ornaments with this lit scene on it.

The sky that day was shifting colors of gray, pinks and blues as the sun tried to break through the clouds as it set. So pretty.

History of Photography - 23/365

Photo of Photos, originally uploaded by 365ormore.

The teen and I went to see the photography exhibit at the Nelson Atkins Museum last weekend. We've joined the 'Shutterbug Club' at out local church that hosts monthly outings for picture taking.

It was amazing to me the different type of printing methods I knew nothing about:
Gelatin Prints
Silver Gelatin Prints
Cyanotype
Camera Obscura
Daguerreotype
Ferrotype

and much much more I can't remember. The teen is taking film photography classes at college and now I'm just a bit jealous to get my fingers all processy to develop my own pictures.

Repetition - 22/365

I'm sure there are others who love to photograph shadows. The best thing about them is they're always changing. In this instance because of the stairs and railings, the shadows were like a pattern that repeats. I love repetition. It's beautiful.  (pic taken at Silver Dollar City.)

Troublemaker - 21/365

I wonder what this ornery cat is smiling about? I'm sure he has just done something bad. He is very full of mischief, getting into cabinets, crawling under beds dragging things you will start missing soon. He is inventive too. He wants to be outside so every, time I come in from taking the dog out, he is desperate to sneak out. One time he didn't 'try', he just JUMPED OVER the returning dog and dashed out in the back yard. Sneaky little thing!

Hobbies - 20/365

I'm still learning all about focus and f-stops and the like with this new camera. I love how the focus was on the Nikon word and the cards fade into the background. We've been playing cards lately. Any game will do... Canasta, Phase 10, Spades or one of my favorites; Spit. We used to play Spit in high school in 9th hour when the bad kids were having their hour of detention. No, I wasn't in detention but we just liked to hang around after school, sitting on the floor, playing cards, oogling the boys. I distinctly remember doing handstands against the lockers too. Now that probably would have landed us in detention if someone had caught us. I think I have a picture somewhere...

Splash of Color - 19/365

These flowers seem to brighten up an otherwise dreary winter day. Found on my sister in law's kitchen table. They're fake but look so pretty.

The Pretty Ones - 18/365

It really fries my cheese when people are more photogenic than me. Okay, it's not really hard to be, since I don't know if I've ever taken a good photo. Still, it fries my cheese just a bit that I can't look as beautiful as these people seem to do effortlessly. URGH!  (pic of my teen and my sister in law. Beauties, both of them.)

Mi Amor - 17/365

Today marks another year of DH's life. 42 years. I've known him for 28 of those, and consider myself blessed because of it. We're heading out to dinner and a movie with friends, sans children! Hopefully we'll eat something pulled out of the sea and laugh and enjoy the movie Sherlock Holmes.

Skywatch Friday - 16/365

Traveling down to Silver Dollar City (in Branson, Missouri) recently, I snapped this sunset out the car window while speeding by at 70 mph. When I got home I realized the picture was actually quite pretty and not fuzzy as I originally thought. So with a little bit of color tweaking, this is the final result. I love the contrasts of bright and dark. The lines you see in the sky are, in fact, power lines. This is for Skywatch Friday.

Cuteness - 15/365

The girls find it super hilarious when Clemie the dog sleeps on the bed. She doesn't want to miss a thing so she is usually sleeping with her body all contorted and twisted sideways but her head is straight forward facing me. They laid down beside her to mimic her stance. What an adorable picture of all my babies!

It's Futile To Resist - 14/365

Diet breaker anyone? If you were near this, it would seduce you into having a piece, or three. Homemade 2" thick cheesecake with cherries. It's definitely food fallen from heaven. Yum. (enjoyed at my DH and DB's combined birthday party last Sunday.) No, I wasn't able to resist.

I found a new challenge to participate in. Ruby Tuesday. Anything red apparently. This works for that theme; the cherries were especially vibrant red. Now I'll have that song stuck in my head all week!

Parents - 13/365

Meet the folks. Nothing like a good photo to show off all the character and laugh lines in a couple who have loved each other for almost 45 years. I hope and pray my DH and I can still tolerate each other when we've been married that long. A good marriage is worth the work.

Puzzlemania - 12/365

DH received a box of 11 puzzles as a white elephant gift this Christmas.  No one has touched them until today. I guess someone got bored enough to pull them out (most likely some electronic was on the fritz. lol) They're working on a water painting with killer whales. I love how the light kicks off of dd's hand. Reminds me that she is still such a child.

New Toy! - 11/365

New Toy, originally uploaded by 365ormore.

My new toy has arrived! I received a Nikon D3000 for Christmas but after much playing, I realized I really wanted Live View and video capabilities. Luckily a friend was in the market for just such a camera. I sold to her, and then bought the D5000 with 2 lens; 18-55 VR and the 55-200 VR. I'm uber excited. I'm reading my way through 'David Busch's Nikon D5000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography'. Kind of like I'm taking a course. That way I'll learn everything there is to know about this camera. Fantabulous pictures will be forthcoming!

New Digs - 8/365

Can modern and traditional combine? I think they can and have with my new bedroom lamp. It matches the modern/traditional mix of our new furniture as well.

Drink Up! - 7/365

The perfect elixir on a bitterly cold day. Since I'm on a Low-carb way of eating, I order a nice mild coffee with SF vanilla and caramel syrups and heavy whipping cream (ask for it, they have it stashed behind the counter!) Yum!

Night Activities - 6/365

Tonight's activity... vegging. I love that Netflix now has a disc you can stick in your PS3 which allows you to view all the 'instant play' movies right on your TV. I foresee lots of lazying around in my future.

Skywatch Friday - College 1/365

Skywatch Friday entry. Picture taken recently outside the local college, through the dirty window of my car with my cell phone. I thought it was pretty clear, considering... Happy New Year!
